Glossary - Lawyer

Legal advice is best left to legal experts such as lawyers.  It is not uncommon for people to get opinions from various sources lacking in legal expertise, such as friends, relatives, television shows, movies, or to make incorrect assumptions about the law, only to find out the information is incorrect after attempting to apply it.

A lawyer can be extremely helpful in preventive planning as well.  If you're thinking of doing something that could get you into legal hot water, a lawyer can help you understand how the law applies to your situation so you can plan your activity intelligently.

When selecting a lawyer, as part of the process it never hurts to verify that they are in good standing with the local Bar Association, local Law Society, etc., to ensure they are allowed to practice.
